David Takata, 53, is the founder and CEO of Engage Capital. He has held board-level and executive management positions with operating companies, and has had international recognition for managing complex investments and transactions.
In June 2007, Takata managed the acquisition of a professional lacrosse team for its current owners. He remains active with the team as its CFO and chairs the National Lacrosse League's Nominating, Governance, & Compensation Committee.
Takata chaired the Nominating and Governance Committee, and was a Finance Committee member of Komag Corporation, a leading disk drive company acquired by Western Digital in a $1.25 billion transaction. He was brought to Komag’s board by a New York private equity fund during the turnaround phase. In the five years emerging from bankruptcy to the company's eventual sale, Komag grew revenue four-fold to $1B annually. During his tenure he managed the search for an independent chairman of the board; participated in the cross-border acquisition of a Taiwanese-owned company operating in Malaysia; and was on deal teams for two convertible debt offerings raising a total of $350M, and for the sale of the company.
Takata is a two-category Wall Street Journal All-Star technology analyst. In 1995, he raised capital and ultimately co-managed $200 million in three technology unit investment trusts while at Gruntal & Company. Takata was a founding member of Gerard Klauer Mattison’s West Coast expansion, and later served as an advisor to GKM Venture Partners’ $50 million venture capital fund.
Takata graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from California State University, Fresno. He is on the board of directors of two non-profit companies; Sticks2Schools and Frogman Charities.
